2026-08-07

  • Made the mascot dog's logo/favicon cuter: bigger sparkly eyes, a small cowlick tuft, plum-colored glasses, and a tongue color now distinct from the cheek blush
  • Overhauled the slide structure of "Session," adding coverage of its relationship with cookies, where session stores actually live, defenses against hijacking and fixation attacks, and a comparison with token authentication
  • Added a "common uses" slide to "Session," covering application-level uses alongside digital marketing and marketing automation (MA) tool use cases
  • Overhauled the slide structure of "Cache," adding coverage of server-side caching (reverse proxies, application caches), common uses, real-world solutions, what's a good vs. poor fit for caching, and caveats to watch for
  • Unified the order of "related topics" links across the Web Fundamentals category, and matched the top page's topic order to it (also added missing Cookie/Session/Cache links to Protocol and Request and Response)
  • Standardized the "hint" (analogy) label wording to "Teacher Pochi's hint" across the site, including topics not otherwise updated in this round
  • Added slides on practical pitfalls and commonly used tools/techniques to "Business Requirements Definition," "System Requirements Definition," "Basic Design (External Design)," and "Estimation Methods"
  • Added "practical pitfalls" slides to "SaaS," "Package Software," "Scratch Development," and "No-Code," and a "well-known tools" slide to "Low-Code"
  • Added a "V-Model perspective" slide to "Waterfall" and a "practical pitfalls" slide to "Agile"
  • Added a "well-known tools and services" slide to "Jamstack," a "well-known frameworks" slide to "SPA," and "practical pitfalls" slides to "REST API Design" and "Architecture Patterns (MVC, etc.)"
  • Added "practical pitfalls" slides to "SQL Basics" and "Table Design," and a "stages of normalization (1st–3rd normal form)" slide to "Normalization"

  • Overhauled the slide structure of "Domain," adding coverage of URLs, hostnames, DNS, and IP addresses
  • Overhauled the slide structure of "Protocol (HTTP)," adding coverage of SSL/TLS, public/private keys, certificate authorities, and certificate chains

  • Redesigned the mascot dog with a rounder, plumper "chubby-cheeked" face
  • Renamed the site from "IT Fundamentals Field Notes" to "Learn IT Fundamentals with Teacher Pochi" (and gave the mascot dog a name: Pochi)
  • Topic pages now open scrolled straight to the slide content, skipping past the header and breadcrumb
  • Fixed an oversized top margin in phone landscape mode
  • Added a call-to-action toward the contact form on the top page and topic pages, inviting feature requests and content suggestions
